This week, we’re celebrating all of our wonderful volunteers. Volunteers are the heart of Home-Start and the heart of our local community. It is your commitment, generosity, and kindness that allow us to stand alongside families. No matter the role, every volunteer within our Home-Start community is making a difference, and we want to amplify your stories and learn from them.
Every one of our volunteers has a unique story. One volunteer shared, “From the moment I joined Home-Start, I was welcomed into a warm and supportive community. The dedication and passion of the staff and fellow volunteers were truly inspiring.
What sets Home-Start apart is its unique approach, providing practical, non-judgemental, and emotional support directly within the homes of families. By building strong relationships with these families, I have witnessed first-hand the transformative power of a helping hand and a listening ear. I personally feel I have gained more than the family I am currently supporting.
I encourage anyone considering volunteering with Home-Start to take the leap. By dedicating your time and compassion, you will be part of an organisation that is changing lives, strengthening communities, and fostering hope for a brighter future. The commitment is small – just two to three hours a week and the benefits can be huge for the families you support and for you.”
Volunteers’ Week celebrates the amazing contributions volunteers make to communities across the UK. The celebration starts on the first Monday in June every year. It’s a chance to recognise, celebrate, and thank the UK’s incredible volunteers for all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector, and society as a whole. Volunteers’ Week was first established in 1984, by what was then known as Volunteering England. This year, we’re excited to be celebrating the 40th anniversary, from Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th June.
Keep a lookout on our social media channels as all week we’ll be posting various volunteer stories & thank you’s. On Friday, we’ll be joining up with Home-Start UK for a virtual meet-up with volunteers across the whole country, and we’re hosting a bring-and-share lunch later this month.
