The new High Sheriff of Oxfordshire, Mrs Sally Scott, was delighted to visit the offices of Home-Start Banbury Bicester and Chipping Norton in central Banbury to officially open our refurbished play garden. The High Sheriff revealed that the beautiful wooden plaque on the climbing frame was the first plaque she had ever unveiled. The garden, which is enjoyed by families and young toddlers attending Home-Start drop- in sessions, has been revitalised through the generosity and hard work of donors and supporters, in particular the volunteer team from Nicholson’s of North Aston, Rodney Portman, B&Q Neighbourly fund, Stag Wood Craft and Wickes Banbury. The garden; also used by other charities based in the old Britannia Road Children’s Centre building, provides a secure and calm space for Home-Start families and those supported by Oxfordshire Mind and the Sunrise Multicultural Project.
The High Sheriff said:
‘ I’m sure the space will be much used by many families and I hope gives some solace from the day to day trials which people face.’
The garden opening was attended by representatives from a number of local charities as well as Oxfordshire County Council, Lady Hayter, Patron of Home-Start Banbury, Bicester and Chipping Norton, Sir Tony Baldry and the town Mayor, Councillor Fiaz Ahmed.
