On Wednesday, some of our Stay & Play families enjoyed a second gardening session at Bridge Street Community Garden.
Last May , we started with a hexagonal gardening bed, filled with compost by the wonderful volunteers at Bridge Street Community Garden in Banbury. On that occasion we planted small plants and seeds, painted the wooden sides and left nature to do its work!
This time, we first enjoyed further getting to know the Community Garden by hunting for five shy teddy bears that were hiding amongst the gardening beds.
Then our Stay & Play families got to work – harvesting the Rainbow Chard, which was looking immense. Finding the different stalks in red, orange and yellow was a particular highlight! All families took some home with them, with a recipe idea kindly found by Tila, the Garden officer at Bridge Street.
It was then time to replant in the spaces we had created. The children enjoyed placing spinach, lettuce and other seeds into the soil, but particularly enjoyed watering the soil!
Some families – and staff- then chose to paint, adding more detail to the sides of the HSBBCN bed.
