This spring, we partnered with Cherwell District Council’s Healthy Eating for Families on a Budget initiative to help our supported families learn to make low-cost, healthy meals. Participating families received a free family-sized slow cooker, a recipe book, and ingredients for three meals.
Our dedicated volunteers guided families in preparing various meals, discussing ingredients, and fostering conversations about healthy eating between parents and children. They also engaged the children in making healthy choices and trying new foods.
The project was a great success, benefiting 16 families. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive:
“I’ve enjoyed doing it and trying new ingredients.”
“I love my slow cooker, thank you for giving it to me.”
“It was really useful to know that dinner was already taken care of in the slow cooker, and that made the evening a lot calmer.”
This initiative not only provided practical cooking skills but also promoted healthy eating habits among families.
